Wednesday the 8th of May 2019, the annual symposium of BME will be held. This year’s BME symposium, “Pumping life into science” , will be in the light of biomedical and technological developments in the cardiovascular field. During this symposium, five speakers will talk about various developments in the cardiovascular field of predicting, prevention and remedy of cardiovascular diseases. They will cover subjects like artificial organs, surgical techniques, and heart monitoring.

The day will be led by Richard Lopata (Research group Cardiovascular Biomechanics) as Chairman of the Day. Presentations will be given by external lecturers:

• Dr. Ir. Gijs van Soest (Erasmus MC): Early diagnosis and non-invasive surgery
• Dr. Frebus van Slochteren (UMC Utrecht): Real time imaging during procedures
• Dr. Aurelie Serrero (Xeltis): Regenerative heart-valves
• Prof. dr. Jolanda Kluin (Hart en long centrum Leiden):Soft robotic heart
• Prof. dr. Eva van Rooij (Hubrecht Instituut): Signaling pathways
