Start-up market

Monday 29 April 2024 - In Vivo
Event time: 19:00 - 21:30

Registration closes: 28 April 2024 23:59

On Monday, April 29, the 2024 start-up market will take place. Several start-ups will present themselves at this start-up market. Have you always wanted to know what it's like to work in a small company that is involved in innovative ideas? To work with a team of enthusiastic colleagues on a shared project? Then this is the career activity for you!

During this evening, the following companies will visit us: Haermonics, Scinvivo, ToxGenSolutionsAvalanche Medical and Xyall. First, we will go in rounds by all the companies to hear what they do and what working at their company is like. This is followed by a network drink where you can ask all your burning questions and get to know more about working at a start-up!

More information about the companies:

  1. Haermonics: Haermonics is a medical technology company that aims to deliver an economical alternative for postoperative drainage products in the cardiac surgery market. On top of the economic value Haermonics delivers a cost-effective high-end technology product (drainage and flushing system) that is capable of providing smart clinical decision support by controlling and analysing surgical blood loss. Haermonics technology provides an integrated solution for surgical blood loss and wound healing, targeted versatile therapy, and smart integration, which results in improved patient outcome after surgical procedures when compared to current standards.

  2. Scinvivo: Scinvivo is a biotechnology company dedicated to advancing medical imaging technology, and they enable optical biopsies for bladder cancer diagnostics. Current imaging techniques for bladder cancer have their limitations, as they only enable the urologist to visualise the bladder wall surface. In 30% of the cases, healthy tissue is incorrectly classified as cancerous. Moreover, the borders of the tumor are difficult to visualize, and it is impossible to determine the invasion depth of the tumor with current imaging technologies. All these limitation lead to unnecessary, invasive, and costly interventions. Scinvivo's technology enables the urologist to improve diagnosis, and thus decreasing the amount of interventions, patient burden, and costs.

  3. ToxGenSolutions: ToxGenSolutions (TGS) applies toxicogenomic approaches on human health problems to provide the customer with epigenetic biomarker fingerprints for application in novel, more accurate, methods for the particular diagnosis of their need. TGS aims to develop novel and innovative epigenetic profiles hallmarking high-impact chronic and rare neurodevelopmental diseases to serve as early, preclinical, diagnostic verdicts of a disease. Moreover, TGS provides novel epigenetic diagnostic methods for the early identification of pressing high-impact pathologies including cancer, neurodegeneration and immune-dysfunction, before irreversible disease-specific alterations in patient physiology have occurred. By doing this, they aim to provide an optimal perspective for patient healthcare as well as follow-up programs and preventative therapeutic interventions.

  4. Avalanche Medical: Avalanche Medical is developing a biomimetic, non-degradable polymer focal knee resurfacing implant intended to treat cartilage defects in middle-aged patients. The SyCap implant’s mechanical and tribological properties ensure wear resistance, long-lasting functional restoration and pain relief, without inducing damage to the opposing cartilage or potentially loosening by stress-shielding. The implant allows for immediate load bearing, and can be introduced surgically via a minorly invasive procedure. This minimizes rehabilitation time and ensures a quick return to work.

  5. Xyall: Xyall digitizes and automates the tissue dissection workflow to help pathologists obtain more reliable molecular diagnostic test results. Their Automated Tissue Dissection solution enables accurate Region of Interest determination and dissection. Moreover, Xyall scans the Hematoxylin & Eosin stained slides and the dissection slides, displaying tissue samples at the right magnification. This makes Region of Interest detection easier for the pathologist!
